As women we all like to pamper & treat ourselves. However, what is considered just basic upkeep vs high maintenance. I think it all depends on what we view as a must or a lust in our lives. I can admit I am an avid supporter of rewarding yourself. I can honestly say I have high maintenance tendencies when it comes to my appearance but I am very mindful because it can become very pricey. So I try to limit my high maintenance wants for special occasions only. Whereas my basic up keep must are things that I do on a monthly basis. For example for an occasion such as my birthday my wants are high maintenance because it is a special time so I am willing to splurge for it.  Here is a list of my high maintenance splurges and my Basic up keep must.

Hair: I tend to get my hair done at least 1 or twice a month depending on the condition. As a child my mother always made her two week visit to the salon so I followed suit once I was old enough. My hair is curly so it requires a lot of maintenance and it is very tough to deal with. In between times I don’t go to the salon I do all the deep conditioning and protein treatments myself. It saves me money and I also tend to use natural products that you can probably find in any kitchen. My splurge would be I sometimes do extensions for special occasions whether it is a vacation or something of that sort. It gives me a different look from my basic hair routine. I do this probably no more than twice in a year.

Hair Removal:  So I started waxing two years ago and I wish I would of started much sooner. My must items include Brazilian Waxing, underarm waxing, & eyebrow threading. For other parts of my body I usually wax the hair myself. There are so many at home waxing kits to choose from now. And if worse comes to worse there is always Nair or the dreaded razor.

Nails: Getting my nails done is definitely a splurge that is hard to shake off. I love gel nails because I don’t have to worry about it chipping or losing its shine. However when I have the patience it is so much cheaper to just do my nails myself. I now try to limit my gel nails for more special occasions than just because.

Skin: Your skin is very important because it is a reflection of your health. Thankfully when you are in your twenties you don’t really have to do much to your skin to make it look good. How you treat it now will determine how gracefully you age in the future. When I want to splurge on my skin I go to the spa and get facials and body scrubs. But the good thing about these splurges they can easily be done at home when I don’t want to spend the extra funds.

There you have it this list concludes what I consider are my basic upkeep must and high maintenance splurge lust.  I would love to hear your feedback on what everyone has on their list. Happy New Year to you all 🙂
