STYLE 101

Someone who has a great style isn’t just throwing high- end designer brands together.  Any stylish woman should walk into a room looking like a million bucks even if her ensemble may not have cost that. You have to command an audience and exude confidence. My trick to look stylish & luxe is all about mixing and matching. Whatever my mood is that is what my clothes tend to reflect. I love designer clothes just like the next girl; however I don’t want to be a poster girl for a specific brand. I love the challenge of putting things together with a dash of Ashley as the icing.

If you read my previous post Labels & Love- How to look Luxe you will see I spotlight just three staple items to have to look luxe. To be stylish is totally different because that means your attire has to match with the luxe items as well as your poise. Being fashionable & stylish is truly an investment & a state of mind. Trends are great, but you have to ask yourself this question…will you be wearing what you bought last season next season? If your answer is yes then congrats you are on the right track. If your answer is no then you should rethink how you shop for your favorite items. If you don’t have any idea then you listen to my tips on how to become instantly stylish.

Originality: I recently went on a sort of rant on how people nowadays are so unoriginal. Remember stylish people take risk! If you play it safe then you will never find you niche. Also there is a fine line when it comes to admiring and copying someone. I never wanted to be any one else I always wanted to be me and stay true to that. For example I have never been a sneakers girl, a fierce pair of heels has always been my shoe of choice. What may work for someone else may not work for you.  As I have mentioned before you want to be confident in your ensembles, trust me it makes a difference on how the world sees you.

Opt for Classic not Trendy: We all have fall victim to the latest trends from all our favorite designers because it is the “it girl” must have. However, I have learned classic withstands time so much better. For example I recently just purchased my first leather skirt. Previously I had been buying the trendy faux leather skirts to get the real leather look. I spent more money buying fake leather which eventually added up to the real leather skirt I have now.

Tailor Your Clothes: Your clothes should look custom fit for YOU even if they aren’t made that way. A tailor is so important for any stylish woman who would like to look extra posh. The key is to find a good seamstress and consult with them as to what you want. Since I am tall and curvy so my problem is making sure things are the right length and are not too big else where.  Play up your shape to find out what works best for you.

Less is More: When it comes to what your attire should look like Less is More! This is not to be confused in dressing ultra-sexy. Think sultry & modest when picking out your clothes. Stay away from overkill logos, low cut tops, and miniskirts just to name a few. (These are more trendy items) The crop top trend I love however I usually play it up with a high waist skirt so it won’t show as much skin. If you want to show your curves where something form fitting not tight you are not desperate for attention. Remember the finger tip rule we all had in school when it came to our skirts and shorts. Keep that in mind when you are buying your posh items. It is all about presentation you only get one first impression. IMAGE IS EVERYTHING!
